About
Fifteen years as a consultant
Since 2011 I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where I lead Minimal Access Gynaecological Surgery and the Trust's Perinatal Mortality Review Tool programme. I was previously the Obstetric Risk Management Lead, investigating serious incidents and contributing to child death reviews.
I am invited each year to teach at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and am a registered Royal College Examiner.

Practical answers for solicitors considering an instruction in obstetrics or gynaecology.
Do you act for claimants and defendants?
Yes. I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors, nationwide.
Can you comment on a draft Letter of Claim or Letter of Response?
Yes. I can review a draft letter and comment on whether the allegations of breach of duty and causation are supported by the records and by my opinion, before it is sent.
Can you report on care given many years ago?
Yes. Care is assessed against the standards, guidance and accepted practice in place at the time it was given, not against current guidance.
What records do you need?
Complete, paginated copies of the relevant records. For obstetric claims this usually means the maternity notes, CTG traces, partogram, and neonatal and GP records. For gynaecological claims, the hospital notes, operation notes, imaging and histology reports, and GP records.
